The laboratory takes an active part in research projects with both national and international partners. In addition, SUERC have been involved in the organisation of almost all major international inter-calibration studies held during the last 30 years.
Glasgow International Radiocarbon Intercomparison (GIRI)
The radiocarbon intercomparison studies span over 30 years, and given the complexity of the radiocarbon dating process, the diversity of materials being dated, the continued technical developments, GIRI is the next development of the series of intercomparisons to support continuing quality assurance. Aim: to define consensus values for all the samples and a quantified uncertainty supporting a more in-depth evaluation of laboratory performance and variability. RESPONSE
RESPONSE Early Inuit (REI) is a work package under the project “Coproduction of Knowledge and the Building of Archaeological Capacity in Greenland” that investigates early (Thule) Inuit settlement and resource use in the entire fjord systems of Uunartoq, Igaliku and Tunulliarfik fjords, South Greenland. Historic Environment Scotland Dating Programme
Provide advice on sample selection, radiocarbon measurement, calibration, and ancillary isotope analysis for HES. Additionally, the bespoke HES database designed by HES (with SUERC), allows access to all information and data for ‘users’. The analysis equates to more than 200 samples per year and includes many current projects operational nationally with HES.
