O’Nions review
The end of reactor operations at the Scottish Research Reactor Centre came as a result of the 1995 O’Nions review, which recommended the closure of the facility. The reactor completed its final operational run on 11th September 1995, marking the end of more than three decades of research, teaching, and isotope production. This milestone triggered the beginning of a carefully managed decommissioning programme, which included stages of defuelling, structural removal, and delicensing of the site.
