SUERC Facilities
Bathrooms
In the main building, there are bathrooms near the reception. Others are located at the top of the stairs in Block B. There are accessible bathrooms in the hallway in Block E, and between Block B and the Stable Ecology Isotope laboratory (Block D). Both are gender-neutral.
Break room
There is a communal room on the first floor of Block B, adjacent to the seminar room. The room is fitted with a microwave, kettle, fridge, mugs, cutlery, etc… This is where staff go for a tea and coffee break or lunch. Communal milk, coffee, and tea are available for a modest contribution.
Lunch opportunities
There is a Lunch Van around noon in front of the reception (it is usually announced over the PA system), the refectory on the top floor of the South Lanarkshire College is open to the public, and a selection of restaurant across the road behind SUERC (10 min walk).
Car park
In front of SUERC, there are parking spaces on the road, with two disable parking spaces in front of the entrance. By the side of the building, when turning in Rankine Avenue, there is a closed private parking reserved for staff and visitors.
Seminar room
The seminar room is located on the first floor of Block B, next to the break room. It is fitted with a projector linked to desktop computer enabling fully hybrid meetings.
A Period friendly Institute
SUERC committed to provide period products, free of charge, to all menstruating people coming to SUERC to work or to visit. You can find single use products available in all bathrooms, and we are an endometriosis friendly employer.
Mental Health
Mental health first aiders and first aiders are present in every building; a list is available at the reception - they are available to support all staff, students and visitors.
SHAW
We have an active staff group that deliver regular staff events at lunchtime, all staff, students and visitors are welcome to attend. Examples include seasonal walks, ceramic mug painting, doughnuts and pizza.
Fieldwork Advice
If your trip to Scotland includes fieldwork, and you havent worked outdoors here before, please contact us to discuss what you may need, including concerns over the weather, midges and wild haggis.
All visitors and new staff receive information packs prior to arriving on site. We are happy to help with advice and support, you should have a contact for your visit, please discuss with them, or identify a suitable contact from our people pages.
Virtual Tours
An accurate layout for each NEIF laboratory is available to consult in 3D on the GAEA e-learning website: https://www.gaea.ac.uk/ (Free access when registering with an ‘ac.uk’ email address). These tours can be used to assess the space you will be working in. You can measure the height of worktops, width of doors and passageways, and assess the environment according to your needs, If you require adjustments, please reach out to your SUERC contact in advance of your visit to discuss.
If you are visiting the NEIF radiocarbon laboratory, the accessible and women’s bathroom is by the front door, the men’s bathroom is at the end of the corridor by the back door.
The building has a kitchen fitted with a microwave, fridge, toaster, and kettle. There is car park by the building reserved to NRCL staff and visitors.
If you are visiting the SUERC AMS laboratory, the accessible/women’s and men’s bathroom are by the front door. The building has a kitchen area in the main machine control room fitted with a sink, microwave, fridge, toaster, and kettle. There is a car park in front of the building reserved for AMS staff and visitors and additional general parking to the side of the building.
